Artichoke
Cynara scolymus
Artichoke is a large, immature thistle bud and is said to bring protection from negative energies and help encourage personal growth. Artichoke hearts are considered aphrodisiac and associated with the element air.
Prepare whole artichokes by rinsing the bud well and and trimming off any bad parts. Place it in a steamer and steam for a half hour or until the petals break away easily. Place on a serving dish then remove the petals one at a time and dip in your choice of butter or lemon juice or a combination of both. Scrape the tender yummy bits off the bottom of the petals with your lower teeth and enjoy. Discard the tough, inedible portion of the petal and proceed to the next.
