Allium schoenoprasum

Chives are a small mild flavored member of the onion family. They grow well in pots indoors or out and, if you grow them outdoors, they will set pretty round inflorescences of pale lavender flowers that taste marvelous in late summer and keep coming back year after year.

Tie your chives into knots before adding them to protective foods. To rid yourself of an addiction or bad habit, tie them in a knot and throw them away.

Chives have been shown to increase metabolism and lower cholesterol. They are also rich in Thiamin, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Phosphorus, Zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Copper and Manganese.
