Egg
Many traditions hold the egg as a sacred symbol of the Universe, some claiming the whole Universe came from an egg or IS an egg. It is said to contain all the elements. Some traditions hold the egg so sacred that to eat them is taboo while others view them as magical food.
Brown eggs are said to be the most magical, but chicken eggs come in many colors including shades of blue and green and browns range from light tan to rich chocolate. You can even get duck eggs in black and shades of gray (Cayuga ducks), though this coloring will scrub off, leaving you a white egg.
White eggs take dye well, though fresh eggs will resist dye unless the bloom left by the hen is scrubbed off. Eggs can be dyed to any color to suit your magical work.
Boiled eggs can be colored or painted with symbols for your magical purpose then ritually eaten. (they're not just for Ostara!) Raw or boiled eggs can be painted with magical symbols and tossed into the ritual fire or buried as an offering or to seal a pact with spirits. Blown out eggshells can be decorated and hung up as talismans, with our without additional materials tucked inside.
Eggs are a good source of Protein, Riboflavin, Vitamin B12, Phosphorus and Selenium.
